For its 4th edition, the 2019 Busan Art Film Festival will present 20 short films from 12 countries, divided in 4 different programs:

Through its six highly relatable films, the Relationship status: in flux program is all about the ever-evolving delicacy and subtleties of being together, wanting to be together, struggling to remain together… be it through the dreaded weight of normalcy (A normal life), bullying (Before the rain), peer pressure (Homosocial Dancing), breakup and betrayal (Speak Easy, B), or through a deep need for familial acceptance in the face of gender-fluidity (Unspoken) or multicultural relationships (Pray).

Cities impose themselves on us (Das ist komisch). They dictate our daily habits and rhythms, shape our minds and bodies, and force us to adopt various behavioral patterns and means of existences. In the five films of the Street-smart program, some characters (Two radishes in the family are too much, Boys From Hinterland) may be better suited than others (Play) to survive in this harsh and unpredictable environment, yet most of them carry within them a true lust for life, ready to burst out at any moment (Neverland).

Owning up to the name of the festival, the Art-makers program consists of five shorts featuring characters which are involved with some manner of art form (music, photography, filmmaking…) while at the same time having to contend with daily issues: burgeoning feelings (The Pianists), painful memories (The Broken Trace), repressed dreams (Lyly Flower), maintaining a sense of relevance in our modern society (The Star Subtitles), or a menial position (Zebra).
