  리뷰 | Review

  삐뚤어진 화면 위로 병원이 보이고, 환자복을 걸친 토마스가 거리로 뛰쳐나온다. 초점 없는 눈, 삐쩍 마른 몸, 엉기적거리는 걸음걸이까지, 과연 예사롭지 않은 행색이다. 토마스와 마주치는 거리의 사람들은 그에게 안부 인사를 건네기도, 토마토 하나를 선물하기도, 놀리거나 싸움을 걸기도, 조언을 구하기도 한다. 다만 토마스의 대응 방식은 별나다. 남과 싸우지 않기 때문에 행복할 뿐이라며 엉뚱한 말을 늘어놓거나 선물 받은 토마토가 바닥에 짓눌린 채 있어도 별 신경 쓰지 않는다. 상대에게 지독한 면박을 주기도, 맞고 쓰러진 척하며 도망가기도, 어처구니없는 충고를 하기도 한다. 그렇다면 토마스의 여정 끝에서 우리는 어떤 의미를 발견할 수 있을까. 어쩌면 다소 싱거운 결말에 다다라 상심할지도 모르겠다. 하지만 영화가  보여주는 한 사람의 노정에는 왠지 모를 애틋함과 유쾌함이 존재한다. 그저 더치 앵글 위로 펼쳐지는 발칙한 리듬에 눈과 귀를 맡겨보시길 권한다.(윤지혜)

  
  

  On the screen, a hospital comes into view, and Thomas, dressed in a hospital gown, runs out into the street. With unfocused eyes, a gaunt body, and a staggering gait, his appearance is certainly unusual. The people he encounters on the street sometimes greet him, offer him a tomato, tease him, pick a fight, or seek his advice. However, Thomas's responses are peculiar. He claims to be happy simply because he doesn't fight with others, or he doesn't mind when a gifted tomato gets squashed on the ground. He might give someone a severe rebuke, pretend to be knocked down and run away, or offer absurd advice. What meaning can we find at the end of Thomas's journey? You might be disappointed with the somewhat bland conclusion. However, the path of one person shown in this film carries a certain tenderness and amusement. I recommend surrendering your eyes and ears to the audacious rhythm unfolding in a Dutch angle. (Yoon Jihye)

  아냐와 카샤는 젊은 미술학도로서 꿈을 키워나가며 일상의 내밀한 영역도 스스럼없이 공유하는 가장 가까운 친구 사이다. 함께 해외 인턴십에 오를 날을 기대하며 상기된 두 사람 사이로 어떤 불안이 비친다. 언제나 조금씩 자신보다 앞서가는 카샤를 보며 이번만큼은 본인을 위한 선택을 하려는 아냐. 그러나 일이 예상치 못한 방향으로 흐르면서 또다른 선택의 갈림길 앞으로 그녀를 데려놓는다. 곳곳에 등장하는 캠코더 속 장면들은 단순한 기록의 의미 이상으로 지금껏 서로를 지켜보며 쌓아올린 애정의 깊이를 가늠하게 하는 명료한 증거로 단단하게 자리한다. 때로 자신의 눈을 어둡게 만들고 마음을 흐려놓는 존재들을 마주할 때, 다시 방향을 잡기 위해서는 무엇을 이정표로 삼아야할까? 아냐는 어떻게 다시 카샤 곁으로 돌아갈 수 있을까?   지금 폴란드에선 33,000명의 홈리스가 거주 문제를 겪고 있다. 주인공 로버트도 쉼터 시설에 머무는 홈리스다. 그는 매 저녁 거리의 홈리스들을 위한 식사 배급에 참여한다. 기착지에 대기 중인 홈리스들의 면모는 가지각색이다. 별일 아닌 일처럼 길 위의 일상을 영위하는 이들도 있고 여러 이유를 대며 음식을 더 원하는 사람도 있다. 이 와중에 로버트의 유일한 삶의 낙은 맥주인데, 이 맥주가 문제를 일으킨다. 잦은 음주와 생활 태도의 결함으로 인해 로버트가 쉼터에서 쫓겨날 위기에 처한 것이다. 특별히 극적이지 않은 대화와 상황으로 채워진 작품이다. 그러나 전반적으로 푹 가라앉은 듯한 화면의 질감과 고스란히 보이는 홈리스들의 거친 피부, 종종 언급되는 전쟁의 상흔 등이 여러 삶의 풍파를 먹먹하게 드러낸다.   Currently, 33,000 people in Poland are experiencing homelessness. The documentary follows Robert, a homeless man living in a shelter. Each evening, he helps distribute meals to the homeless on the streets. The people at the distribution points are diverse; some go about their street lives as if nothing is unusual, while others ask for extra food for various reasons. Robert's only solace is beer, which eventually leads to problems. His frequent drinking and troubled lifestyle put him at risk of being expelled from the shelter. The film captures ordinary conversations and situations, but also poignantly reveals the hardships of their lives, including the rough texture of the homeless and the often-mentioned scars of war.   인도의 어느 시골, 할머니와 함께 살고 있는 10대 자매 말와와 쿠샨은 삶의 새로운 전환점을 맞이한다. 언니 말와는 학교 선배와 서로 호감을 갖고 만남을 시작한다. 그런 말와의 모습이 마냥 자신과 멀어보였던 동생 쿠샨에게도 마음을 흔드는 사람이 나타난다. 각자 다른 속도로 사춘기를 지나고 있던 두 사람은 타인과 관계 맺으며 자신의 정체성을 탐구해나가기 시작한다. 말와와 쿠샨을 보며 이 시기에 겪는 통과의례는 모두 엇비슷한 모습을 하지 않음을 짐작할 수 있다. 이는 지극히 개인적이고 고유한 궤적으로 자신만의 세계를 찾고 만들어 가는 과정임을 확인하게 된다. 이제는 누구도 거들떠보지 않는 들판의 꽃 한 송이가 쿠샨에게는 진심을 전할 수 있는 유일한 길이 되는 것처럼 말이다.   전 세계 어느 곳에서든 보존이냐 개발이냐 하는 논쟁 아래서 시위하거나 땅을 갈아엎는 일이 반복되고 있다. 대게는 개발되는 쪽으로 결정이 나고, 유서 깊은 터전은 사라질 운명에 처한다. 이미 정해진 답 앞에서 무엇이 옳은 방향일까를 고민하는 것이 소용없는 일처럼 느껴지기도 하지만, 우리는 끊임없이 다각도의 견해와 입장을 살펴봐야 한다. 한때 1,000여 곳에 달했던 인도 벵갈루루의 호수들은 현재 210곳만이 남아있는 상태다. 영화는 그중 하나인 베구르 호수를 담고 있다. 그리고 여기 서로 다른 두 입장이 존재한다. ‘누르 메리’에게 베구르 호수는 농사를 지속케 하는 생업의 공간이다. ‘프라사드’에게 해당 호수는 휴양의 수단이자 자연과의 지속 가능한 관계를 이어가는 타협의 공간이다. 이미 무분별하게 이뤄지고 있는 하수 처리를 막고 자연 그대로를 보존하는 것은 너무 이상적인 일일까. 호수를 매립하고 공원을 만드는 등의 개발 정책이 과연 적확한 타개책일 될 수 있을까. 영화는 쉽게 결론지을 수 없는 상황 앞에서 우리가 해야 할 일에 대해 곱씹게 만든다.   Across the globe, the debate between preservation and development sparks protests, with decision-making often favoring development and leading to the loss of historic sites. Despite the seeming futility in choosing the right path amid predetermined outcomes, it is crucial to consider multiple perspectives. Bengaluru, India, has seen its lakes reduce from around 1,000 to just 210. "Flow of Time" explores Begur Lake, one of the remaining few, through two perspectives. For "Noor Mary," Begur Lake is essential for sustaining agricultural livelihoods, while for "Prasad," it is a recreational haven and a way to maintain a sustainable relationship with nature. Is preserving the lake from sewage disposal too idealistic? Can development solutions, like landfilling to create parks, be effective?
