마벨의 삶은 항상 사랑으로 가득 차 있었다. 그녀는 버스 터미널에서 티켓을 판매하며 사람들을 서로 옆자리에 앉혀 커플이 되게 했다. 하지만 그녀는 언제나 남의 삶에 피어나던 사랑이 이제 자신의 삶에 피어날 것을 몰랐다.

Love has always been present in Mabel's life. While selling bus tickets at a bus station booth, she pairs couples by seating them side by side to travel. What she didn't know was that the love she always made blossom in the lives of others would now blossom in her own life.

버스 터미널의 매표소에서 일하는 마벨에겐 비밀스러운 취미가 한 가지 있다. 눈이 맞을 것 같은 승객들을 일부러 옆자리에 앉히거나, 커플 손님이라면 떨어져 앉지 않도록 직접 손쓰는 취미다. 남의 사랑을 맺어주는 마음은 유복하나 정작 메이블 본인의 사랑은 난항이다. 발렌타인 데이가 다가오며 사랑의 기류가 거리 곳곳에 넘쳐흐르지만 별다른 기대감은 없다. 동성을 좋아하는 그에겐 마음을 쉬이 밝힐 기회가 쉽게 오지 않는다. 그러나 매번 가던 단골 카페에서 메이블은 첫눈에 반한 상대를 목격하고 사랑의 상상에 빠져들기 시작한다. 이 사랑의 충격을 이미지로 표현하기 위한 일련의 몽타주가 눈에 띈다. 온갖 동물이 입을 맞추는 모습, 충격의 강도를 가시화하는 폭발과 붕괴의 장면 등이 화면을 재빠른 속도로 탐닉한다. Mabel, who works at the ticket booth in a bus terminal, has a secret hobby. She enjoys deliberately seating passengers who seem like they might hit it off next to each other, and ensuring couples don't get separated. While she delights in fostering the love lives of others, Mabel's own love life is struggling. As Valentine's Day approaches and the atmosphere is filled with love, Mabel has little hope. She finds it difficult to reveal her feelings, as she is attracted to women. However, one day at her favorite café, Mabel sees someone she falls for at first sight and starts to indulge in fantasies of love. A series of montages stands out, visually expressing the impact of this newfound love. Scenes of various animals kissing and images of explosions and collapses depict the intensity of her emotions, rapidly consuming the screen. (Lee Woobin)

모니카는 마드리드의 유명한 크리에이티브 디렉터로, 일 외엔 시간을 거의 할애하지 않는다. 루이사는 가족을 위해 더 나은 미래를 찾아 스페인으로 온 페루 여성이다. 모니카의 어머니 도냐 마누엘라의 죽음이 그들의 삶을 엮어준다.

Mónica is a well-known creative director from Madrid with little time for anything that isn't work. Luisa is a woman from Peru who decided to come to Spain in search of a better future for her family. The death of Doña Manuela, Monica's mother, brings their lives together.

여기 한 집에 네 여성이 있다. 마누엘라, 모니카, 수사나로 이어지는 모녀 삼대와 그들과 집을 돌보는 루이사다. 이야기는 마누엘라로부터 시작된 듯 보이지만 그녀는 온전히 모습을 드러내지 않는다. 모니카의 딸 수사나 역시 마찬가지다. 영화는 모니카와 루이사가 보내는 시간에 집중한다. 온종일 일에 매달리고 스스로를 가꾸는 데에 열중인 모니카는 가족들과 소통하는 일이 어렵다. 더 나은 미래를 꿈꾸며 페루를 떠나 온 루이사는 고향에 두고 온 삶이 내내 사무치게 떠오른다. 이들은 한 집 안에서조차 시공간을 따로 쓰고 있다는 느낌이 들 정도로 철저하게 각자 존재하면서 홀로 괴로워한다. 그런 그들을 덮쳐 온 상실감은 두 사람을 무너지게도 만들지만 아픔을 나눌 때 서로에게 곁을 내어주는 일이 비로소 가능하다는 믿음을 확인시켜준다. In one house, there are four women: three generations of mother and daughter, consisting of Manuela, Monica, and Susana, and Luisa, who takes care of the household. The story appears to start with Manuela, but she never fully reveals herself. The same goes for Monica's daughter, Susana. The film focuses on the time Monica and Luisa spend together. Monica, who spends all day immersed in work and taking care of herself, finds it difficult to communicate with her family. Luisa, who left Peru dreaming of a better future, is constantly haunted by the life she left behind in her homeland. They each exist so separately and suffer alone to the extent that it feels as though they occupy different spaces and times within the same house. The overwhelming sense of loss that engulfs them both leads to their breakdown but also reinforces the belief that by sharing their pain, they can finally open up to each other. (Yi Namyeong)

56세 경장 사트비르 야다브의 은퇴가 가까워졌다. 그는 다른 이들처럼 코로나 이후의 세상에 적응했지만 현장 임무에는 어려움을 겪는다. 정기 순찰 중 상황이 격화되자 그의 아버지가 가졌던 직업적 이상을 실행할지 보훈대상자 자녀취업지원제도에서 아들을 제외하게 할지 그는 기로에 선다.

Satbir Yadav, a 56 years old head constable in Indore, is nearing retirement. Although he has become used to the post-COVID world like everyone, he has not been able to cope with the field duty. When things escalate during a routine patrol, he has to choose between his father’s ideals and saving his son from another cycle of compassionate appointments.

오랜 세월 경찰관으로 일해 온 야다브는 다가오는 은퇴를 대비하여 신청한 전근을 하루이틀 앞두고 오늘도 근무를 이어가고 있다. 코로나의 여파가 일상에 뿌리 내린 가운데 외출에서 돌아올 때마다 바깥에서 착용한 마스크와 소지품들을 꼬박꼬박 소독하는 모습에서 그의 성품을 읽어낼 수 있다. 그에게는 아내와 아들이 있지만 속깊은 대화나 친밀한 스킨십을 나누지 않는다. 특히 아들과의 대화는 자주 어긋나곤 한다. 아들은 자신을 염려하는 마음에서 비롯된 말이라는 걸 알면서도 아버지가 평소 가꾸는 정원에 들이는 관심만큼만 제게 주길 내심 바라는지도 모른다. 그렇기에 영화가 끝난 뒤, 이 부자가 우연히 한 방향을 바라보고 나아가는 길 위의 짧은 순간이, 두 사람의 얼굴이 더욱 마음에 남을 것이다.(이남영)

Yadav, who has worked as a police officer for many years, continues his duty today, just a day or two before his requested transfer in preparation for his upcoming retirement. Amid the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on daily life, his habit of meticulously sanitizing his mask and belongings after returning from outside reflects his meticulous nature. He has a wife and a son, but they don't share deep conversations or intimate moments. Conversations with his son often miss the mark, despite his son's understanding that his father's words stem from concern. His son might secretly wish that his father would show him the same care and attention he devotes to his garden. That's why, after the film ends, the brief moment when the father and son accidentally look and walk in the same direction will leave a lasting impression on the audience. (Yi Namyeong)

Four short animated films based on four poems by the late Macedonian poet Aco Shopov: The Long coming of the fire, Not-Being, Into the Black Woman’s Dream, Horrordeath.

북마케도니아 스코페의 주목할 만한 네 개의 애니메이션 작품을 소개한다. 은 추상적이고 거친 선들로 존재의 근원을 추적하고 있다. 몸속 깊은 곳에서 자라나는 태아의 형상, 땅속으로부터 움트는 싹의 모양을 나타낼 뿐 아니라 손에 잡히지 않는 심상들의 뿌리를 표현하고 있다. <부재> 또한 존재의 탐구 여정을 그린다. 걷는다는 행위, 프레임 안에 갇힌 각양각색의 인간 형상을 통해 존재와 비존재를 가르는 무의식의 영역을 의미심장하게 묘사해 낸다. 은 조악한 인형들을 통해 끔찍한 꿈 속 세상의 모습을 나타내는 애니메이션이다. 혹자는 꿈 안에서 반항할 힘을 잃은 채 매서운 존재와 마주해야 한다. 무의식은 의식의 영역을 잠식하고, 인형이 들어찼던 대기 공간은 이제 텅 비어있다. 는 이미 시작 자체가 비극이라 말하는 염세적 세계관을 그린다. 봄을 생명력 넘치는 계절의 출발로 여기기보다 거짓과 상처로 가득 찬 고뇌의 시기라 부른다. 샛노란 인간 형상의 조각들은 부식되고 움츠러들 뿐이다. 이 괴기스럽고 낯선 스코페 작품들과의 조우는 정말이지 특별한 경험이 될 것이다. Here are four notable animation works from Skopje, North Macedonia.

"The Long Coming of the Fire" traces the origins of existence through abstract and rough lines. It depicts not only the forms of a fetus growing deep within the body and the shape of a sprout budding from the ground but also expresses the roots of intangible images. "Absence" also portrays a journey of exploring existence. Through the act of walking and various human forms trapped within the frame, it meaningfully depicts the unconscious realm that divides existence from non-existence. "Into the Black Woman’s Dream" is an animation that depicts a horrifying dream world through crude dolls. Some encounter a fierce presence in their dreams, losing the power to resist. The unconscious invades the realm of consciousness, and the space once filled with dolls is now empty. "Horrordeath" illustrates a pessimistic worldview that sees tragedy as inherent from the start. It calls spring not the beginning of a vibrant season but a period of suffering filled with lies and wounds. The bright yellow human-shaped fragments only corrode and shrink. Encountering these bizarre and uncanny works from Skopje will truly be a unique experience. (Yoon Jihye)
