  영화의 시작과 동시에 벌어지는 대치 상황은 긴장감을 주기보다 다소 엉뚱하게 흘러간다. 아마도 큰 몸집 탓에 풍선이라 놀림 받는 루이스는 수업 시간을 피해 화장실을 찾는다. 벽에 그려진 자신의 낙서를 익숙한 듯 지우는 얼굴이 울적하게 젖어있다. 바로 앞, 매서운 눈초리로 루이스를 향해 활을 겨누는 누군가의 정체가 무엇인지 파악하려 애쓰는 순간 그가 내뱉는 말은 뜬금없다. ‘난 그거 마음에 드는데’. 자신을 알바(Alba)라고 소개하는 요상한 외양을 한 이는 킬러라 하기엔 아무래도 허술하고 저승사자라 보기엔 어쩐지 친근하다. 최악이 될 뻔한 날, 녹아내리는 아이스크림의 촉감과 드럼 연주에 들썩이는 어깻짓, 손끝에 닿는 강물의 온도, 오르내리는 시소의 리듬으로 하루를 기억할 수 있게 만들었으니 그는 아마 요정이 맞을지도 모르겠다.   The standoff that unfolds as soon as the film begins, instead of creating tension, takes an unexpectedly whimsical turn. Luis, who is often teased and called "balloon" due to his large frame, skips class and heads to the bathroom. He appears melancholic as he erases his own graffiti from the wall, a task that seems familiar to him. Just as he tries to make out the identity of someone aiming a bow at him with fierce eyes, the stranger’s words catch him off guard: “I like it.” Introducing themselves as Alba, this oddly dressed figure seems too clumsy to be an assassin and too approachable to be a grim reaper. On what could have been the worst day, Alba manages to make it memorable through the sensation of melting ice cream, the lively beat of drumsticks, the touch of river water on fingertips, and the rhythm of a seesaw going up and down.   푹푹 찌는 여름날, 숨죽인 채 집 안 어딘가를 응시하는 어린 소녀가 있다. 오랜 시간 병상에 누워 지내며 생기를 잃어가는 엄마, 그녀를 간병하고 집안일을 챙기느라 여유가 없어 보이는 이모, 종일 밖에서 무엇을 하고 다니는지 알 수 없는 예민한 언니까지. 언제 무슨 일이 일어날지 모르는 불안 속에 아홉 살 소녀는 혼자 자라는 법을 배워간다. 아픈 엄마와 눈을 맞추고, 살을 맞대며 온기를 나누는 일 밖에는 해줄 수 있는 것이 없는 울카는 오늘 엄마를 위해 크리스마스 식탁을 선물하고 싶다. ‘Saudade’. 그리움, 향수, 고독이란 단어로 쉬이 설명될 수 없는 고유한 감정. 마침내 모두의 손을 보태어 완성된 한여름의 크리스마스 풍경을 마주할 때, 마음 깊은 곳에서 공명하는 이 복잡한 감정을 마침내 헤아려볼 수 있을 것이다.   On a sweltering summer day, a young girl sits silently, staring somewhere within the house. Her mother, bedridden for a long time, is gradually losing her vitality. Her aunt, busy with caregiving and household chores, seems to have no time to spare. Her irritable older sister spends all day outside, her activities a mystery. Amidst the constant uncertainty of what might happen next, the nine-year-old girl learns to grow up on her own. Ulka, with nothing to offer her sick mother but eye contact and the warmth of physical closeness, wishes to gift her a Christmas dinner today. 'Saudade'—a feeling not easily encapsulated by words like longing, nostalgia, or solitude. When the midsummer Christmas scene, completed with everyone's help, finally comes into view, perhaps she will be able to grasp this complex emotion that resonates deeply within her.   내리사랑은 상대적으로 수월하지만 치사랑은 갖은 노력을 다해야 할 만큼 어렵다고 한다. 프라틱은 치매 걸린 아버지를 돌보게 된다. 아픈 어머니까지 형이 봉양하고 있기에 일이 바쁘단 핑계로 아버지를 모르는 체하기 쉽지 않다. 누군가를 극진히 살피기 시작하면 자신의 삶에 있어서 많은 부분을 포기하고 희생하게 된다. 그는 자신에게 중요한 일생일대의 미팅조차 취소하며 아버지를 보살핀다. 제시간에 약을 먹이는 것도, 양치를 시키는 것도, 온전히 변을 누이는 것도 만만찮다. 억지로라도 음식을 먹이고, 몸을 씻기고, 말썽을 잠재워야 한다. 마치 세상 물정 모르는 갓난아기를 돌보듯 아버지를 살피는 프라틱. 물론 과거 아버지 또한 그를 그렇게 키웠을 것이다. 부모를 향한 자식의 사랑은 본능에 새겨진 것이 아닌 수고가 필요한 종류의 것인지도 모르겠다. 하지만 프라틱의 행동에서 그러한 구분이 무색해지는 느낌을 받는다. 아버지를 극진히 간호하는 아들의 모습에서 과거에 아버지가 아들에게 주었던 무궁무진한 사랑을 짐작하게 되므로.(윤지혜)

  
  

  
  

  
  

  While it is said that parental love flows naturally, the love from a child to a parent often requires considerable effort and sacrifice. Prateek finds himself taking care of his father, who has been stricken with dementia. With his brother already tending to their ailing mother, Prateek  cannot easily use his busy work schedule as an excuse to ignore his father. Once you begin to care for someone devotedly, many aspects of your own life must be relinquished and sacrificed. Prateek cancels a crucial meeting of his own to take care of his father. Ensuring that his father takes his medication on time, brushes his teeth, and uses the bathroom properly is no small feat. He must force-feed his father, bathe him, and calm his outbursts, tending to him much like an innocent infant who knows nothing of the world. Indeed, his father once cared for him in the same way. The love a child has for their parent might not be an instinctual thing, but rather one that requires effort and diligence. However, Prateek's actions make such distinctions seem irrelevant.   이 영화는 과거에 묶인 관계의 양상과 습관의 행태로부터 탈피하려 애쓰는 한 모자의 모습을 그린다. 정말이지 단순한 하나의 행동에서 이야기가 시작된다. 아들 카에타노는 자신의 새 안경을 인터넷으로 주문해 버린다. 여태까지 그는 엄마와 함께 마리아 씨의 가게에서 안경을 사 왔었다. 어쩐지 엄마와 거리를 두는 듯 보이는 카에타노. 엄마는 그런 아들의 소원한 행동에 서러운 감정이 들 뿐이다. 나중에는 오해가 덧대어져 카에타노의 새 안경을 부수기까지 하는 엄마. 두 사람이 서로에게 품은 진짜 마음은 과연 무엇일까. 아들을 자신의 곁에서 떼어내지 못하는 엄마와 그런 엄마에게 비밀스럽게 행동하는 아들 사이의 관계는 무탈할 수 있을까. 우리는 ‘함께’에서 ‘혼자’로, ‘여기’에서 ‘저기’로 이동하며 변화한다. 이제 아들은 새 안경을 쓰고 홀로 집 밖을 나서야 한다. 어찌 되었든 엄마는 아들에 대한 시를 쓰고, 아들은 엄마를 담은 영화를 만들고 있으니, 그렇게 서로 간의 사랑을 기억하면서 앞으로 나아가야 한다.(윤지혜)

  
  

  
  

  
  

  This film portrays the struggle of a mother and son to break free from the patterns of their past relationship and habits. The story truly begins with a simple action: the son, Caetano, orders his new glasses online. Until now, he had always bought his glasses with his mother from Mrs. Maria’s store. Caetano seems to be distancing himself from his mother, whose heart aches at her son's detached behavior. Eventually, misunderstandings pile up, and his mother even goes so far as to break Caetano’s new glasses. What are the true feelings they hold for each other? Can the relationship between a mother who cannot let go of her son and a son who acts secretively around his mother remain untroubled? We change as we move from "together" to "alone," from "here" to "there." Now, Caetano must put on his new glasses and step out of the house on his own.
