  일본 야마가타 지역의 교향악단인 야마가타 심포니 오케스트라를 중심으로 야마가타 시의 문화예술 지형도를 소개하는 다큐멘터리다. 야마가타 심포니 오케스트라의 최대 강점은 문화예술 소비의 저변을 넓혔다는 것이다. 예술의 깊은 교양이나 배타성을 강조하기보단 꾸준히 지역 학교에서 공연하고 지역민들의 참여를 유도하는 방식이 이곳의 가치관이다. 이 덕에 팬데믹 기간에도 악단은 다른 곳에 비해 안정적인 존속을 이어갈 수 있었다. “예술과 문화가 생활에 비필수적인 것이 아니라 생각한다”라는 야마가타 시장의 공연 전 연설이 으레 행정가의 인사치레가 아닌 진정성 있는 대화로 느껴지는 이유다. 특정한 형식미나 극적 재미를 억지스럽게 노리지 않고 악단 관계자, 시민들의 진솔한 인터뷰 및 간단한 자료화면으로 구성돼 있다. 마치 조화로운 교향악처럼 고르고 모나지 않은 다큐멘터리다.

  Focusing on the Yamagata Symphony Orchestra, a symphony orchestra in the Yamagata of Japan, this documentary introduces the cultural and artistic topography of Yamagata City. The greatest strength of the Yamagata Symphony Orchestra is that it has broadened the base of cultural and artistic consumption. Rather than emphasizing the deep culture or exclusivity of the arts, its values are to consistently perform in local schools and encourage the participation of local people. Thanks to this, even during the pandemic, the orchestra was able to maintain a stable existence compared to other groups. This is why pre-performance speech by the mayor of Yamagata, "I don't think art and culture are non-essential to life," feels like a genuine conversation rather than an administrator's formal greeting. It does not forcibly aim for a specific format or dramatic fun, but consists of honest interviews with officials of the orchestra and citizens, as well as simple film footage. It's a documentary that is as even and unobtrusive as a harmonious symphony.

Her mother’s visit from a provincial town in the south not only jeopardizes her efforts, but adds to the already palpable disconnect between mother and daughter.   하루 중 어스름한 시간만이 주는 신묘한 힘이 있다. 다소 어두운 탓에 시야는 은근히 가려지고, 몽롱한 상태의 사람들은 저마다의 들뜬 감정에 도취되고 만다. 광란의 파티, 비밀스러운 만남, 신경질적인 거짓말, 이 모든 것들이 가능해지는 시간. 영화는 그런 시간 위에 선 한 인물을 조명한다. 여자는 밤중에 열린 파티에서 춤을 추고, 그곳에서 만난 남자와 파티장 밖으로 빠져나온다. 어슴푸레한 새벽녘까지 사랑을 나누는 두 사람. 잠들어있는 여자를 깨운 것은 예상보다 이른 엄마의 연락이다. 아침이 되고, 여자는 엄마를 만나러 기차역으로 나간다. 도시가 낯설어 어리숙한 엄마의 모습에 불만을 터뜨리는 여자. 쨍쨍한 낮이 되고, 그녀는 다시 남자가 있는 집으로 향한다. 어두운 때의 달콤한 시간은 밝은 대낮까지 지속될 수 있을까. 어쩌면 영화는 그녀의 기대와 달리 나아갈지도 모른다. 그렇다 해도 그녀의 실망감이 그대로 지속되리란 보장 역시 없다. 어스름한 시간도, 밝은 시간도 그저 지나갈 테니깐.

  There is a mysterious power that only the dusky hours of the day can give. The darkness subtly obscures the view, and the drowsy people are intoxicated with their own excitement. Frenzy parties, secret rendezvous, nervous lies, a time when all of this becomes possible. The film sheds light on a character who stood on such a time. The woman dances at a party in the middle of the night, and then walks out of the party with a man she met there. Two people who make love until the dusk of dawn. It was her mother's call which was earlier than expected that woke up the sleeping woman. In the morning, the woman goes to the train station to meet her mother. The woman who complains about her clumsy mother because she is not familiar with the city. It's a bright day, and she heads back to the house where the man is. Can the sweet hours of darkness last until broad daylight? Maybe the film goes against her expectations. Even so, there's no guarantee that her disappointment will last. The dusky hours and the bright hours will just pass.

  스피디, 오스카, 마르시아는 어느 한적한 기차역을 서성이고 있다. 스피디는 큰 배낭을 메고 어딘가로 떠날 채비를 하고 있다. 오스카는 짐짓 장난을 쳐대며 스피디와의 작별의 순간을 유예시키려 한다. 그는 스피디가 자신들 곁에 머물기 바라는 듯 보인다. 마르시아는 어지간히 철없이 구는 오스카에게 스피디를 내버려두라고 말한다. 그러던 중 스피디는 철로 위 난간에 아슬아슬하게 서있는 타데즈란 낯선 청년을 발견한다. 뒤늦게 그 광경을 목도한 오스카는 타데즈가 자살하려는지도 모른다고 판단해 서둘러 그를 저지한다. 떠나려는 친구, 머물기를 바라는 남겨진 이의 마음, 이별의 순간에 등장한 생경한 인물. 영화는 헤어짐의 순간에 맞닥뜨린 우연한 만남을 통해 마냥 못되지만은 않은 서로의 속내를 들춰 보인다.

  Speedy, Oscar and Marcia are pacing a secluded train station. Speedy is carrying a big backpack and getting ready to go somewhere. Oscar tries to postpone the moment of farewell to Speedy by going on a frolic. He seems to want Speedy to stay with them. Marcia tells Oscar who is being childish to leave Speedy alone. In the meantime, Speedy finds a strange young man named Tadez standing narrowly on the railing of the railroad. Oscar, who belatedly sees the scene, thinks that Tadez might be trying to commit suicide and rushes to stop him. A friend who is about to leave, the heart of someone left behind who wants them to stay, a stranger who appeared in the moment of goodbye. The film reveals each other's inner selves through a coincidental encounter at the moment of separation.

  댄은 이른 나이부터 고된 해외 파병 생활을 지냈고, 집으로 돌아와선 소중한 주변인의 죽음을 겪었다. 잇따른 고초로 우울증과 PTSD에 빠진 그는 한참을 집안에서 나가지 않으며 본인을 돌보지 못했다. 그런 그에게 찾아왔던 희망은 레고다. 바로 그 장난감 레고. 무언가를 새로이 만들고 집중하며 애정을 갖는 시간이 상실만 이어지던 그의 삶을 회복시킨 것이다. 댄이 직접 나긋하게 발화하는 과거의 아픔, 레고에의 애정이 다큐멘터리를 진행한다. 깊은 비애의 진창에서 빠져나오기 위해 한 발을 내디뎌야 했던 그의 진심이 묵직하게 다가온다. 군데군데 삐쳐 나오는 설핀 연출마저 뒤덮는 온화함의 공기가 다큐멘터리를 감싼다. 한편 레고를 소재로 택한 만큼 스톱모션 애니메이션의 형식으로 레고만이 가능한 고유의 재미를 취하기도 한다.

  Dan had to go through a grueling overseas deployment from an early age, and when he returned home, he suffered the death of a loved one. He fell into depression and suffered from PTSD as a result of a series of torments, and he did not leave the house for a long time and was unable to take care of himself. The hope that he found was Lego. That's right, the toy Lego. The time to rebuild, to focus, to be affectionate has restored his life, which had been a constant series of loss. With his own words, Dan talks about the pain of his past and his love for Lego in the documentary. His sincerity, with which he had to take a step to get out of the mire of deep sorrow, comes to us heavily. The air of gentleness that covers even the loose production that sticks out here and there envelops the documentary. On the other hand, as Lego is chosen as the material, it also takes the form of stop-motion animation with the inherent fun that only Lego can offer.
